Seminar Description:
Five Questions To Ask Yourself To Stop Wasting Time... Did you know that you could be wasting more time than you think? According to psycologist Sharon Melnick, PhD. using the right time management tools can help you gain back to to 5 hours per week in wasted time. Dr. Melnick will teach methods she has developed as a business coach and psychologist at Harvard Medical School in a 5-part teleseminar series: From Chaos to Control: How to end wasted time and free up guaranteed 5 more hours a week to work and play beginning in early December. In the meanwhile she shares these five questions to ask to help you stop wasting time. 5 questions to Ask to Stop Wasting Time 1) Have you created a system for anything you ever do more than 2 or 3 times? How much time do you waste on tasks that have to be done repeatedly? Everything from inputting business cards, following up with contacts, filling out expense reports to your personal grocery shopping list. Here's what you get when you make a system: 1) finish your task in less time; 2) don't procrastinate because its easy to get started; 3) can delegate it or automate it technologically once you have all the steps detailed. 2) Do you know the REAL reasons why you procrastinate? Do you think its because you are 'lazy'? Here are 5 other possible explanations: You might think the task is so big you will get overwhelmed. Maybe you put off making the call because you haven't figured out the smart thing to say to a prospect or worry how your friend might react to what you have to say. Maybe you avoid putting your work out so people can't criticize you. Maybe you don't get enough sleep or don't eat the right foods so you are too tired to focus. Learn the REAL reason behind each procrastination behavior in order to stop doing it! 3) Do you know you take things personally? How much time do you waste taking situations personally and replaying them in your mind? That's right, all that time spent preoccupied about what you did wrong and or being aggravated at what the other person did and you think they "should" do differently. If you take things personally then you are wasting minutes and maybe even hours that you never schedule into your calendar. Recognize you are doing it and start separating out what's 'my stuff' from what's 'not my stuff' – work on the former and stop worrying about the latter! 4) Do you REALLY know what you want? Clarity is your best time management tool – Do you know specifically the outcome you want, and have you chosen the one of many possible strategies you could use to get there? Have you made a timeline of the necessary steps and established a clear order in which they need to get done? If not, you are guaranteed to waste a lot of time on unnecessary activities and on false starts. 5) Do you still try to get other people's approval? How much time do you spend trying to get other people to like you and approve of you? Yes, be generous with other people - but how much time do you sink into doing things for everyone else and not getting your own 'to do' list done? Yes - be proud of your work, but how much time do you spend above what's needed, trying to be perfect so other people will think well of you? Here's a shortcut: Put your efforts into respecting yourself and build confidence by enjoying what you contribute. Other people will quickly respect you and see the value you bring (and the point is they will do so without you having to try so hard to get them to show it!) Join the revolutionary course by Sharon Melnick, Ph.D. who will teach methods she has developed as a business coach and psychologist at Harvard Medical School From Chaos to Control: How to end wasted time and free up guaranteed 5 more hours a week to work and play.
